Jeff Slaton is an American cigar industry journalist who owns Have A Premium Cigar. He was born in Houston, TX and raised in San Antonio, TX, where he currently resides. Jeff has been smoking cigars for more than 30 years, first starting to quit smoking cigarettes. He and his Wife Brenda created Have A Premium Cigar in early 2018. The site is currently a repository of cigar industry news as well as cigar and lounge reviews, including on-site Trade Show coverage. The Slattons are also active members of the charity Cigars for Warriors.

Cigar career

As mentioned above, Jeff started smoking cigars in the late 1980s. In 1993, he began his foray into premium hand-rolled cigars. In 1998, Jeff joined Cigar Weekly, a pre-social media cigar community site. He would go on to become the Cigar Reviews Editor for CW. In 2007, he and his wife attended their first trade show, the RTDA (later IPCPR and now PCA) in Houston, TX. In 2015, the Slattons were planning a summer vacation in New Orleans, LA. It turned out to be the same week as the IPCPR, and they were credentialed by Cigar Weekly to cover the show. They have teamed up to cover shows ever since, as well as covering various cigar-related events, including RomaCraft’s Weaselfest, CFW’s Catsfest, and a DrewEstate Barn Smoker. Jeff and Brenda are active members of the Brotherhood of the Leaf San Antonio and usually attend the group’s herfs. They also support the San Antonio chapter of Cigar Social for Veterans, a group dedicated to eliminating veteran suicides. They are regulars at most of the cigar lounges in the San Antonio area, and take trips to other cities to visit cigar shops and lounges.

Personal life

Jeff has a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, and is now a retired draftsman, both manual and computer-aided. He also taught AutoCAD in the Tech school arena for five years. Brenda is a retired Public School Journalism teacher who still teaches part-time. They have two sons. The younger son, Jeremy, has a website for CBD products and attends the TPE with them.[1]
